Tesla's sports car, Roadster, aims for record mileage and overwhelming acceleration.
"Roadster will be able to set new standards for driving distance and acceleration for electric vehicles," Tesla CEO Elon Musk said.
Tesla Roadster was exhibited at the Grand Basel car exit in Switzerland in 2019, the first to be unveiled to the public since its surprise release at the Tesla plant in California in November 2017.
The roadster has been unveiled in the form of an open saw that can be removed from the middle of the roof and stored in a dedicated compartment in the car, and the interior with a 2+2 seating arrangement will be officially unveiled later.
Tesla said the roadster accelerated between 0 and 100 km/h in 1.9 seconds. It is also announced that the maximum speed will be 400 km/h, which is expected to compete with electric Hypercar Pininparina Batista and Lotus Evija.
In addition, Roadster will have a distance of up to 620 miles (about 997 kilometers) on a single charge of the battery. This range is far more than 610 kilometers currently held by Tesla Model S.
Power is generated in 200kWh battery packs and is nearly twice as large as other electric vehicle batteries today. The three electric motors are equipped with two rear wheels and one front wheel drive.
In addition, Tesla explained that the roadster had 10,000NM (1019.7kg.m) of torque and accelerated to a quarter of a mile (402m) within 8.9 seconds.
The basic price of Tesla Roadster starts at $200,000. Reservations are currently being made as production starts within this year.
